A before breakfast walk started the day, not especially long, but got the blood flowing. The wind was still a bit fresh, but we made it back to the van without freezing, had breakfast, packed up and left at 9:35am. First stop was at Maldon; we had a wander around the small gold fields town before brewing up in the van. We decided to have coffee to go as it was rubbish collection day, and the truck was not far away. Next planned stop was Maryborough (VIC not QLD), however, it was not to be – we didn’t see a caravan parking spot, so drove straight through. Greg said the town kind of reminded him of our Maryborough.
We decided to push on to Ballarat and check-in then have lunch. That we did, then discovered that the finish to Stage 2 of the Jayco Herald Sun Tour 2018 was in Buninyong, about 20km from the van park. So off we went in the truck. Found the Finish Line and waited. Original ETA was 3pm, however, the route had to be extended by about 10km for a 100km+ day. The race finished about 3:30pm, and we waited for the post-race presentations. A Dane won the stage; seems that the Danes are the flavour of the year so far in Australia – winning the women’s Australian Tennis and now this stage??!!
